During peak hours, the cafe may be crowded and it is recommended that customers planning to come in large groups to make a reservation beforehand.

After a short interview with one of the co-founders, we got to know a little bit more about the cafe. The cafe started their business 7 years ago with a total of 3 different branches across Penang to date. Hideout Cafe credits their success to the executive chef, which helped them with the research and development of their business since day one. The co-founder of Hideout Cafe stated that the reason that he decided to be a part of this business was because he had a 40 year background in the F&B industry and was very passionate in his field.

According to the co-founder, their best-selling local dishes are their Nasi Lemak and Pan Mee, while their best-selling western dishes are their chicken chop and spaghetti. With the wide variety of local and western dishes, customers will have more choices on what to order and will not feel tired of having the same dish every time they dine at Hideout Cafe. Not to mention, like any other cafe, they have a broad range of choices for coffee to provide their customers' with their daily dose of caffeine.

Looking for a cafe with a little bit more heritage? Right along Bishop Street is the popular Coffee Cave by Toh Soon Cafe. They specialize in Hainanese Robusta coffee, which is traditionally roasted and grilled with charcoal. Apart from that, Coffee Cave serves a wide variety coffee besides their specialty coffee. Similar to Hideout Cafe, Coffee Cave caters mostly to bankers from the nearby banks. Despite being a more traditional cafe, Coffee Cave's interior features a mix of modern and vintage designs that complements each other very well, making it a perfect place for patrons that are looking to capture some 'Instagrammable' pictures.

We were lucky enough to be able to have a conversation with the manager of the cafe, which told us about the rich history of Coffee Cave. Mr. Ooi Toh Soon, was a migrant that sailed across the ocean from Hainan in hope of making a living in Penang. In 1950, Mr. Ooi started his first business selling coffee and toast on his tricycle. Years after, in 1980, his son has taken over his business and is now running two different cafes in Georgetown. Till today, Coffee Cave by Toh Soon Cafe still uses the same traditional recipe for their coffee and toast that was passed down by Mr. Ooi decades ago.

We were recommended their kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs alongside their signature Hainanese Kopi-O which we enjoyed very much. But don't let that fool you, Coffee Cave's menu consists of a wide variety of cuisines including local, fusion, as well as western dishes for you to enjoy. From Nasi Lemak to Fish N' Chips, you will never get tired of the food served at Coffee Cave. With a simple goal in mind, Coffee Cave's aim is to serve an everyday cup of balanced coffee and to be globally recognized as a establishment that serves authentic Malaysian cuisines.
